Overall Reflection of the Outstanding Teacher Program
This was the sixth year I was able to participate in the Outstanding Teacher Program and I found the experience to be very valuable to me as a professional on a number of levels. First and most importantly, it required me to be reflective about my teaching. The portfolio required me to demonstrate and reflect upon my teaching practices in assessment, instruction, content, pedagogy, collaboration and partnership. I believe that reflection on one’s teaching is the best way to improve upon your skills and professional development.

I also found the Outstanding Teacher Program to be very useful in terms of soliciting feedback from both my peers/clients (staff). It was very helpful to read their impressions and suggestions concerning my teaching. Again, I believe that reflection upon their statements is another valuable way to improve as a professional.

I feel fortunate to teach in a district that allows us to demonstrate and reflect upon our profession while also being rewarded for a job well done. Although I am not sure this program will exist in future years, it is my hope that we will have similar opportunities to reflect on our work and gather feedback about our performance from peers, parents and students.
